Pastoral Supervision

 What is Pastoral Supervision?

Pastoral Supervision is a regular, contracted, intentional space built on a relationship of trust, in which you and I meet to look at your work in ministry. It is a way of growing in self-awareness, pastoral competence and vocational identity in a safe and open space. Within a framework of theological/spiritual understanding and relevant psychological theory we can explore issues that arise in your pastoral practice and the dynamics of inter-personal relationships.

What would it offer me?

Burnout, chronic exhaustion, isolation and loss of joy in ministry are all recognised dangers. Relationships are often complex and the huge demands of minisrty can be demoralising. In Pastoral Supervision I would offer attentive support, encouragement, space and time to reflect and a focus on your wellbeing.

Talking to a caring observant outsider can help sustain your ministry and foster a healthy resilience.

This is not line-management, counselling, mentoring or spititual direction but I would seek to provide a confidential space for you to discuss your work and vocation in your context.

 Who am I ?

I am a member of the Association of Pastoral Supervision and Education and have a background in health vising and providing supervision in the NHS. I am a practising artist and have been a spiritual director. I have also lived and worked at the coal face of pastoral ministry as a clergy spouse. All this experience informs and strengthens my commitment to Pastoral Supervision.

How would it work?

Once we have introduced ourselves we can agree on how we will work together with a written contract and built in review periods. We would typically meet every 6-8 weeks and this could be either at my home in Liverpool or online at a time convenient to us both. Each session would be for a hour at a cost of £40. I would expect to be notified if you could not attend. It would be a privilege to listen, support and encourage you in your ministry.
